The objectives of the East Los Angeles Community Youth Center (ELACYC) are to provide academic and recreational programs designed for at-risk youth between the ages of 7 to 17. Our goal is to promote the values of family, community, individual responsibility and citizenship. The current scope of services are divided into four areas: 1.) Tutorial Assistance, 2.) The arts, 3.) sports and physical fitness and 4.) Family Services. Our mission statement reads:

"To provide a safe environment to East Los Angeles area youth through activities, sports and educational enrichment programs that promote the values of family and community, personal responsibility and citizenship".

The population mainly served at the ELACYC is at-risk Latino youth between the ages of 7 to 17 residing in the 90022 zip code. Our program provides services for approximately 450 children at our facility PLUS 65 member class in the after school computer lab and academia.

The East Los Angeles Community Youth Center has always strived to serve to the maximum potential the youth of the East Los Angeles Community. The center offers a wide variety of interactive and social activities like boxing, aquatics and basketball. In addition, volunteers from East Los Angeles College and California State University, California offer tutoring and mentoring for the youth in our fully equipped computer lab and academia.

At the ELACYC, we are very proud to be able to help our youth fight obesity and heart related diseases through our many physical activities. Statistics show that child obesity is a growing concern, therefore, we work very hard to help the youth of our community maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Helping our youth excel academically is definitely part of our mission. We are very proud to see the youth of the ELACYC achieve high standardized test scores. We are very thankful to our tutors' hard work and dedication in mentoring and assisting the youth make these test scores a steady and constant reality.
